Cricket Lovely Reggae


Robert Calvert; writer, poet, musician, and on/off lyricist and singer with space rockers Hawkwind, got a few of his Pink Fairies, TRex and fellow Hawk chums to help him record a couple of cricket themed tunes a few years back, to coincide with a West Indies cricket tour of England.

He co-wrote Hawkwinds mega 1973 hit 'Silver Machine' and indeed sang on the original take, until the rest of the band decided that then bassist Lemmys vocal was more suited for the single release. Despite being a bit peeved about that, it fortunately did not stop Calvert from penning a large number of Hawkwind, and solo, classics throughout the 70's and 80's...
