Ah, memories from the summer of 2016.... cricket, beer, picnics, referendums.... Amusing front cover; Cameron (in his new job as assistant groundsman), Farage (conked out on too many Spitfires), May, Boris, Sturgeon (cutting up the Ucake), Corbyn...Really wouldn't want any of them anywhere near one of our games of cricket, although Magdalen do play Sonning, where May lives, so there's always a grim chance... Leisure did play against an MP, the one for Monmouth, Huw Edwards, when we used to go down there for a Saturday game.

Cricket Lovely Reggae

Robert Calvert; writer, poet, musician, and on/off lyricist and singer with space rockers Hawkwind, got a few of his Pink Fairies, TRex and fellow Hawk chums to help him record a couple of cricket themed tunes a few years back, to coincide with a West Indies cricket tour of England.

He co-wrote Hawkwinds mega 1973 hit 'Silver Machine' and indeed sang on the original take, until the rest of the band decided that then bassist Lemmys vocal was more suited for the single release. Despite being a bit peeved about that, it fortunately did not stop Calvert from penning a large number of Hawkwind, and solo, classics throughout the 70's and 80's...

Click to read how his 'Cricket Lovely Reggae' and 'Howzat' songs came about below...fair to say, perhaps, not his best work, but hey, its cricket lovely reggae...
